Kids that have to undergo surgeries and other procedures have to understand what is going to happen to them. These surgical dolls are to help kids understand those procedures. The dolls are there for an educational purpose also a comforting purpose. They provide the kids with comfort and joy because they can draw on them and make them unique to each patient.

The educational side of the dolls is to help the doctors and nurses explain the procedure. When the kids come into an unfamiliar environment it is hard for them to learn and absorb information. These dolls are here to ease the verbal communication of the doctors and make it easier to understand. The kids will be able to keep the dolls and take them home to have those memories of what happened to them in the hospital.

The inspiration for the project came when my mother had told us about the dolls. Later in the semester, we had noticed kids caring around these dolls that had these super fun gowns on. After doing some research and talking with my mom some more, we decided to do this project. Being able to see the effects of the dolls first hand was a really big selling point on starting this project. Knowing how the dolls can help the children is just one reason to do this project.
